BLACK TO MY ROOTS: African American Tales from the Head and the Heart
November 24 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
You are invited to join CD Forum, The Brown Box Theater, and Kathya Alexander as we proudly present the 25th-anniversary production of “BLACK TO MY ROOTS: African American Tales from the Head and the Heart” at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute.
Originally written by Kathya Alexander and Reneschia Brown, BTMR tells the personal, social, and political implications of Black women’s hair and how it affects our self-esteem, social interactions, and career status based on society’s impressions about our hair.
African American women have had a complex, convoluted, and unique relationship with hair. A relationship that is not only an important part of our collective American history, but deeply rooted in the personal, social, and political experience of Black women in the United States, popular culture, and the world.
This 25th production is skillfully directed by Tyrone Brown.
We offer these shows on a sliding scale or pay-what-you-can basis. Suggested donation $5 – $100.
Donations support the individual artists and CD Forum. All contributions are welcome and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute is an accessible building. Please contact info@cdforum.org for accessible seating.
