How to Take and Get Credit for Our Trainings

EDI Foundational Trainings

We offer a five-course foundational training curriculum. Each course is 90 minutes long and led by one of our subject matter experts or a pair of certified peer trainers.

  • 1- Identity, Privilege, and Intersectionality

    This training examines individual, group, and universal identities, explores privilege and constructive use of it, and applies intersectionality to rethink and address complex situations.

  • 2 – History of Race and Racism in Science and Medicine

    This training explores race as a socio-political construct used to justify racism, critiques false scientific claims of racial differences, and examines the harmful impacts of these beliefs in medicine, while encouraging actions to combat racism today.

  • 3 – Gender and Sexual Diversity

    This training defines key terms, raises awareness of LGBTQ+ healthcare inequities, and introduces trauma-informed strategies to improve interactions with gender and sexually diverse patients, colleagues, and learners.

  • 4 – Social Determinants of Health

    This training defines social determinants of health, explores their role in health disparities, and explains how systemic racism contributes to racial health inequities.

  • 5 – Bias and Microaggressions

    This training defines key terms, explains how microaggressions are everyday acts of racism and oppression, explores their psychological roots, and provides strategies to address and prevent bias and microaggressions at UW Medicine.

Additional Trainings

Our additional trainings support you and your team in strengthening your equity mindsets, developing your EDI skills, and moving to action.

  • Bystander Intervention*

    *This training, available to those who have completed the Foundational Training, emphasizes the role of bystanders in fostering inclusion, addresses barriers to effective intervention, and teaches five key strategies, with practice included.

  • Equity Impact Review Tool Workshop

    This training introduces the Equity Impact Review Tool to ensure decisions consider impacts on marginalized groups, and guides participants through its six steps using real UW Medicine scenarios.

  • Healing

    Coming soon! This training will support those harmed by bias and those concerned about harm or wishing to support others, fostering community and healing.

  • Repairing

    Coming soon! This course will tackle the difficult art and science of how to apologize and produce as much repair as possible when bias and harm occur.

2025 Advancing EDI

The 2025 Advancing EDI e-learning module is a 45-minute asynchronous, self-paced course that meets the mandated training requirements of Washington State Senate Bill 5227. All new UW Medicine employees are required to take this training and all employees complete an annual refresher training.
