War Pony

November 19, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

Free screening in honor of Native American Heritage Month! Introduced by Johnny Arnoux, a member of the Blackfoot confederacy from the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.

Stunning, tender and utterly compelling, WAR PONY tells the interlocking stories of two Oglala Lakota men coming of age on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Featuring spellbinding performances from first-time actors Jojo Bapteise Whiting and LaDainian Crazy Thunder, it was created over a period of several years in collaboration with members of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Directed by Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six, Zola) and Gina Gammell, and written by Franklin Sioux Bob and Bill Reddy. In English and Lakota with English subtitles.

Screenings are co-presented with Mother Nation and we ask that you support them with a donation this month. You can donate directly to them at their website or in-person at these screenings.

“CRITIC’S PICK! It has every right to be a furious tragedy. Instead, it’s a slacker comedy that swaps punchlines for laid-back, lived-in absurdities. The jokes land so feather-light you’re not sure if you should laugh.” Amy Nicholson, New York Times

Thanks to Johnny Arnoux (peenAquim~seen from afar) for conceiving this program and for his help and encouragement.

FYI, free ticket reservations will begin one week prior to the film’s showtime.
