Job Opportunity: Assistant Director of Center for Restorative Practices

Assistant Director of Center for Restorative Practices

Shape the future of restorative justice in our diverse healthcare community. As Assistant Director of Center for Restorative Practices (Job profile: Assistant Director-Program Operations (E S 9)), you’ll build and lead the Center for Restorative Practices (CRP), advancing UW Medicine’s equity mission. This leadership role contributes significantly to creating a more just and equitable healthcare system for all. Responsibilities include:

Overall leadership and management: Ensure the CRP fulfills its mission and strategic goals, prioritizing equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Implementing restorative practices: Develop training, build partnerships, and integrate restorative practices across UW Medicine, including leading conferences and interventions.
Promoting the CRP: Build community awareness and partnerships with other organizations.
Supporting equity initiatives: Play a key role in the Bias Reporting Tool and Equity Consult Service, guiding conversations and restorative pathways.

Position Complexities
Navigate a complex environment: The CRP is housed in the Office of Healthcare Equity, which provides services across all of UW Medicine. This includes our hospitals and clinics, the School of Medicine, and more. The Assistant Director must be able to navigate the complex nature of an academic healthcare institution that has reach across the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho region. In addition, this position will partner with Human Resources, UW Ombud, UW Civil Rights Investigation Office, School of Medicine Personnel Policy Unit, Risk Management and other critical leaders.

Position Dimensions and Impact to the University
At UW Medicine, we believe that healthcare is a fundamental human right and everyone should have the same access and opportunities for the best possible outcomes. This belief is very clearly tied to our mission to improve the health of the public. However, it’s important to acknowledge that institutional racism has created inequities in society — even within our own healthcare system — that result in health disparities. We are committed to transforming the way care is provided to eliminate these inequities. Healthcare equity isn’t owned by one department or leader – everyone shares responsibility. We can all take action in our own spheres of influence and in the work we control.

Research shows that members of marginalized groups – including women, LGBTQ+ identified people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color tend to apply to jobs only if they meet every single requirement listed. At UW Medicine, we want the best candidates for the job, and those candidates may have different forms of experience than the qualifications listed. If you are passionate about uniting, empowering, and celebrating diverse communities for all and breaking down barriers for equity, we encourage you to apply.  UW Medicine seeks leaders who represent our diverse workforce and the communities that we serve.
