Health Professions Recruitment Collaborative
The Health Professions Recruitment Collaborative was created as one of the priorities under the auspices of the Health Sciences Diversity Committee. The group consists of recruiters from the six UW Health Sciences schools including: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Social Work. Additional members include the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine (PT, OT, and Prosthetics & Orthotics), MEDEX and Speech and Hearing Sciences. A priority of this collaborative is to: increase outreach to middle and high schools, colleges and universities and community organizations to grow the number of underrepresented and disadvantaged students in the health professions.
Our group and programs are more than happy to speak with students, advisers, or community organizations via physical visits or through zoom meetings. Feel free to ask questions or schedule visits through the email address.

Heritage University Heritage University is a private 4 year institution of higher education established in 1907 and located in Toppenish, Washington, on the Yakama Indian Reservation. It offers associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Degree-seeking students total 1,092 (795 undergraduates and 297 graduate students). Non-Degree seeking students total 32 (13 undergraduates and 19 graduate students). Heritage University is one of 3 Hispanic serving institutions in the state of Washington. Students interested in health careers make an annual trek to learn more about UW programs.
Yakima Valley Community College Yakima Valley Community College is one of the oldest community colleges in the state of Washington. Founded in 1928, the college has a long tradition of quality in teaching and in its commitment to students. Yakima Valley Community College is a public, two-year institution of higher education which is part of one of the best comprehensive community college systems in the nation. As such, the college offers programs in adult basic education, English as a Second Language, lower division arts and sciences, professional and technical education, and community services. The Health Professions Recruitment Collaborative works closely with Cristy Rasmussen, YVCC Curriculum Advisor, to bring and/or Zoom students to the UW to learn more about careers in the health professions.
Health Sciences Recruitment Collaborative from School of Social Work
Dave Morrin
As Recruitment Coordinator for the UW School of Social Work, Dave loves connecting with prospective students who are interested in UW’s Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare, Master of Social Work, and PhD in Social Welfare programs. Dave is from the east coast but has lived in the Pacific Northwest for a decade, having first fought poverty as an AmeriCorps*VISTA before serving as an undergraduate admissions counselor for the University of Oregon and Western Washington University. He is a first-generation college graduate who earned a Master of Teaching degree from Western Washington University, where he mentored English language learners and served as Diversity Graduate Assistant with WWU’s Northwest Center for Holocaust, Genocide & Ethnocide Education and the Center for Education, Equity and Diversity. Dave is an LGBTQ ally, proponent of gender equity and women’s rights, and UW UndocuAlly whose hero is his brother James, an active duty Army veteran. He loves performing improv, kayaking, writing poetry, and travel. He has traversed New Zealand, been a jet ski instructor on Lake Champlain, and even went skydiving from a plane over New Jersey – on his 21st birthday, tandem-style with an instructor named Pancake! Dave is also a vegetarian, and may or may not have two pet fish named Jaws and Fish Stick.

Allison Stephens
Allison has been at the UW since 2010 and has been working with UW School of Pharmacy since 2017. She loves getting to know prospective students and helping to inform them of the information they need to make the decision that is best for them. Although, she is biased when saying UW is a great choice for study as she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications through the University of Washington. As a first generation college student herself, Allison firmly believes any question is valid and is a supporter of anyone who wants to earn a higher education.

Chrissie Chang
Chrissie is a primary advising liason for the clinical degree programs in Speech and Hearing Sciences as well as the central point of contact for the MS Student Association. She provides input to the strategic direction of the graduate programs based on student feedback and graduate school policy. She has worked in several roles at the University of Washington, which aids in her ability to help students navigate the complex environment of graduate study successfully. In addition to advising, Chrissie oversees the department’s social networking platforms and contributes to maintaining the content of the department website. She was a founding board member of the Graduate and Professional Advisors Association.

Liani Swingle
Liani has been with UW Medicine since November 2015 as the sponsorship, events, and outreach manager overseeing a variety of programs including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute, Hogness Symposium and High School Tours. Previously, she was the associate director of alumni events at the UW Alumni Association. Liani came to Seattle from Atlanta in 2012. In Atlanta she helped start the alumni relations program at Georgia Perimeter College where she served as the assistant director of alumni programs. Liani earned her undergraduate degree in business administration from Emory University. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in communication from SUNY Albany.
