Primary Care Careers Immersion Program

About the Program

Are you an undergraduate or postbaccalaureate student considering a career in a primary care setting? Do you want to serve as the first point of contact for patients, focus on preventive care, long-term relationships, and treating a wide range of illnesses?

A nine-month immersive program revealing the expansive care delivered by primary care physicians — through didactic learning, hands-on clinical skills, and longitudinal job shadowing.
WIHSE is partnering with UW Medicine Primary Care clinics, located throughout King and Snohomish counties, to provide professional development and academic enrichment for pre-healthcare students who want to pursue a career in primary care.

UW Medicine Primary Care has 25 locations. Job shadowing will occur at clinics located in Kirkland, Shoreline, Ballard, Kent-Des Moines, Factoria, Mountlake Terrace, Ballard, Woodinville, Federal Way, and Northgate.

Primary Care Careers Immersion Program is designed to help you better prepare you for a health career in primary care.
As a Primary Care Careers Immersion Program participant, you’ll gain access to:

  • Mentorship
  • Longitudinal shadowing opportunities with local physicians at neighborhood clinics
  • Didactics and hands-on activity sessions
  • Academic enrichment and professional development courses
  • A strong, supportive network of peers and mentors

It is a hybrid program with significant in-person participation. Monthly shadowing and quarterly didactics will be in-person at a local UW Medicine Primary Care location. Monthly academic lectures and discussions will be virtual on weekday evenings.
