Doctor for a Day (DFAD)

Doctor For a Day
(Ages – K-12) is an academic year program for students in grades K-12, held once a month from October to May. The program involves collaboration with clinical departments and serves a total of 560 students per academic year.

The name UDOC was derived from the “you” in “youth” and Doctors Of Color.
(Ages – 10th grade – 11th grade) is a 6 week hybrid (3 weeks virtual, 3 weeks in-person) summer residential program held on the University of Washington campus. The program exposes students to all health professions and serves approximately 30 students per summer.

Biomedical Research Internship for the Growth of High-school Trainees from Underrepresented Populations
(Ages – all high school) an immersive research experience for high school students from minority groups underrepresented in science, serving approximately 20 students for 8 weeks from June to August.

SHPEPLE
Summer Health Professions Education Program – Longitudinal Enhancement Program
(Ages – College Juniors and Seniors AFTER completing SHPEP summer program) a 24-month longitudinal engagement program focusing on academic enrichment, professional development and career development to directly support students through the process of preparing their application to medical school. The program serves 25 students per cohort.

HCOP Ambassadors

The HCOP Ambassadors program supports disadvantaged students, typically college seniors and health professional students in their early 20s, by providing mentoring, stipends, scholarships, and clinical training in underserved areas. Building on existing partnerships, the program offers targeted outreach and integrates public health topics like health disparities and behavioral health into its curriculum. Students gain hands-on experience in rural and urban underserved clinics while preparing for healthcare careers.

(Ages – Rising College Juniors) a 4-week virtual and 2-week in-person boarding summer program for undergraduate students from June to July. The program exposes students to medicine, dentistry, and public health and serves 80 students.

UW Primary Care Mentorship Shadowing Program
(Ages – High school and college): a year-around program for high school and college students to gain clinical experience in outpatient clinics and urgent care. The program focuses on Indigenous and Black males as the primary recruitment group and serves approximately 20 students per year.
