What is EthnoMed?

EthnoMed is Harborview Medical Center’s ethnic medicine website, developed for clinicians and healthcare providers working with immigrant and refugee populations in the greater Seattle area. The site offers culturally relevant information on immigration, health beliefs, clinical care, and translated materials for patients.

EthnoMed serves a wide audience—primary care providers, pediatricians, nurses, dietitians, community health workers, medical librarians, social workers, health educators, and others supporting immigrant and refugee health.

A joint program of the University of Washington Health Sciences Libraries and Harborview’s Interpreter Services Department, EthnoMed draws on the expertise of clinical faculty, cultural mediators, interpreters, and ethnic community leaders. Its content is grounded in long-standing relationships between Harborview and Seattle’s immigrant and refugee communities. Each year, the website reaches more than 620,000 users locally and globally.
