The Sexual and Reproductive Health Pathway aims to equip UW medical students with the background knowledge, resources, and experiences required to address disparities in sexual and reproductive healthcare. The curriculum will highlight the intersectionality of race/ethnicity and sexual/gender identity.

Learning Goals and Objectives
- Provide a structure for classroom, service, and experience-based learning that focuses on the unique health needs of cis-women and transgender & non-binary individuals
- Foster a community of collaboration with student organizations involved in sexual and reproductive health justice and education
- Elevate historically marginalized perspectives, including those of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Pathway (SRHP) is open to all UW Medical students across the WWAMI region who are interested in and able to complete the pathway requirements.
Pathway Requirements Overview
REQUIRED COURSEWORK
1. Pre-Clinical Elective Course
- Sexual and Reproductive Health Course (pending: Scheduled for Spring 2027)
- 1 additional existing non-clinical elective course
This 10-week synchronous online course will be offered annually and available to learners across the WWAMI region. Participants will meet once weekly for 1.5-hour interactive sessions. The course will be led by a dedicated faculty leader and supplemented by guest lecturers whose expertise enhances key topic areas.
2. Online Modules via Canvas (asynchronous)
- Completion of 4 required modules and 4 additional modules of the student’s choice.

3. Community Engagement
Students will complete 24 hours of service learning with organizations that focus on providing sexual and reproductive healthcare or serving cis-women and transgender & non-binary individuals
The requirement may be modifiable for students outside of the Seattle foundations site if access is a barrier.

RESEARCH and ENGAGEMENT
4. Scholarly project
Students must complete a scholarly project with a sexual and reproductive health focus. Projects completed within the context of Triple I, RUOP, GHIP, quality improvement, curriculum development, or advocacy activities may qualify for pathway credit. Students completing projects outside of these experiences may work with advocacy or service organizations focused on sexual and reproductive health.
Credit will be granted upon review and approval by the Sexual and Reproductive Health Pathway Director.
5. Workshops
Students are required to attend 5 workshops or conferences held by other UW student or state/national organizations that are related to sexual and reproductive health justice and education.The goals of workshops are to foster a community with student organizations who are already focusing on sexual and reproductive health justice and education.

6. Mentorship
Students are encouraged to identify a Physician Mentor to support pathway learning, career exploration, and professional development.
CLINICAL WORK
7. Clerkship Rotation (Optional)
Students may complete a 4-week clerkship rotation that provides additional opportunities to explore sexual and reproductive health in a clinical setting and deepen their knowledge through direct patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Upon completion of all requirements, students will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
