For decades, a racially biased kidney test delayed or prevented thousands of Black patients from receiving transplants, a practice corrected in 2022. Dawn Wroten and Glenda Roberts are among those affected, with Wroten waiting years longer than necessary and Roberts eventually requiring dialysis before her transplant. The removal of race from kidney function calculations has since reduced wait times for many Black patients, significantly impacting their access to life-saving transplants.
