OHCE is leading UW’s efforts to establish the necessary infrastructure to support implementation of the community engagement and language access aspects of WA State’s Diversity in Clinical Trials law (RCW 69.78). This bill is now live at UW.

In 2025, OHCE brought together multiple community-based organizations and developed the Community Based Research Collaboratory (CBRC), which seeks to establish accountability and create a more equitable research environment through transparent, reciprocal partnership that center community voices.

The purpose of the CBRC is to unite researchers and marginalized communities in transformative partnership, ensuring research is driven by community needs. We aim to establish a foundation of trust and equity to ultimately eliminate health disparities across Washington.

The CBRC’s key activities are to:

Establish/Connect: Bidirectional communication between community and researchers by building restorative relationships through collaborative conversations. Educate: Researchers to understand community lived experience and historical research experiences. Advance: Community Leadership of Research by developing community centered investigators, education and resources around research, and advocacy. Centering community voice in research. Recruit: Supporting community members and researchers in creating opportunities for participation in clinical trials and research through recruit activities and sharing of information.

Community Based Organizations interested in applying to be a Governing Board Member for the Community Based Research Collaboratory (CBRC) should review the RFA and application information below.

Opportunity

  • Collaboration

    501(c)(3) nonprofit community-based organizations can apply to serve as paid Governing Board Members in the CBRC

  • Compensation

    Organizations can receive up to $15,000 for a full year commitment

  • Creation

    Shape community-driven research priorities & partnerships. Together, we build trust, advance equity, and work to eliminate health disparities across Washington.
