CMFA Faculty Spotlight – Dr. Abir “Abby” Hussein

Dr. Abir “Abby” Hussein is aClinical Assistant Professor in the division of Allergy & Infectious Disease. She received her MD from the University of Miami and completed Internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado. She completed her fellowship in Allergy & Infectious Diseases as well as her MPH here at UW.  She works clinically on the general infectious disease inpatient consult services at all UWMC associated hospitals. She is the Associate Medical Director of Infection Prevention at UW Montlake where she helps to shape and shift policies and practices related to hospital acquired infections and quality/safety. She is also a College faculty mentor in the UW School of medicine Colleges Program and has recently accepted the role as one of the College Heads. She is passionate about recruitment and hiring practices, learning environments and psychological safety in medical education, mentorship and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion both in the hospital and in academia. In her spare time, she likes to ballroom dance, sing, do arts & crafts, attend shows, and explore the food scene.
