History Café: Hidden Echoes of Vietnam in Seattle

Fifty years after the first Vietnamese refugees arrived in Washington state, Seattle-based storyteller Thanh Tân shares fascinating artifacts and stories from community archives and personal collections. Discover untold narratives of Vietnamese Americans who have shaped the Evergreen State’s vibrant cultural tapestry.

History Café is produced as a partnership between HistoryLink and MOHAI.

ASL Interpretation and CART captioning are available during the program. In addition, a limited number of Assistive Listening Devices are available upon request. For more accessibility support, email programs@mohai.org two weeks before the program.

Grab some food for thought–Gourmondo at MOHAI remains open until 7pm for every History Café.

Black History Month at MOPOP: Black Beyond

Living Voices: The Right to Dream

Join Living Voices for a special Free First Thursday film screening. Witness the struggle and sacrifice for civil rights in America through the eyes of an African American student in Mississippi during the 1950s and 1960s. Learn how the fight against prejudice has shaped our history.

Living Voices combines live and recorded theatrical performances with archival film, turning history into a moving personal journey. This studio-quality filmed program will take place in the Joshua Green Foundation Theater on MOHAI’s second floor.

Content Notice: Suitable for guests 12 years to adult. Genuine period photos of lynching and anti-Black racial violence, and racial slurs in the film may be disturbing for audiences. These details are included out of respect for those who lived through these times, not to shock or offend modern viewers.

2025 Year of the Snake

The Lunar New Year marks the first new moon of the lunar calendar and is derived from 12 full cycles of the moon. It is celebrated by many Asian communities including Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. There are 12 Chinese zodiac animals and one is associated with each 12-year cycle. 2025 is the Year of the Snake.

Our celebration will take place at Bellevue Square on Saturday, January 25.
Join us for live performances, crafts, displays and more.

Celebrate the Year of the Snake with wishes for good fortune and good health. Gather with family and friends to celebrate traditions during this season.
